Charles and Ray Eames created iconic pieces of the 20th century. Their versatility is further evidenced by the fact that they excelled in various media, spanning the fields of object design, architectural design, and visual communication. Their fiberglass furniture was considered revolutionary and represented an entirely new process. The ‘DSX’ chairs designed for Herman Miller, date from the 1950s and 1960s. The chairs are also identified as early Vitra-manufactured pieces, a fact further confirmed by their markings. The chairs’ surfaces show scratches, wear and rust in places and several of the bases are missing.
